Chateaux as a Reflection of Who We Are

A chateau is much more than a beautiful building. It is an outreach of who you are. While the outside of the building you call home is gorgeous, it is the inside that we spend more of our time within. It is here that we live with our families and it is here that memories are created. Even if you are an avid outdoorsman, the inside of your chateau says much about who you are.

There is quite a bit of history that goes into a French chateau, and you become a key cog within that history when you make the leap of taking ownership or part ownership in such an estate. It is impossible to remove that historical element from a chateau; after all, many of these fine buildings and properties have been around for many centuries. As such, everything from the crystal goblets on the shelves, to the antique armoire, to the centuries old oil paintings within your house is precious. It is only fitting that these things reflect their owners, though. You will want to design your chateau’s layout in a manner that is best fitting of you and your personality.
Many folks consider French chateaux to be museum-like places. But this is only part of the truth. First and foremost, a chateau is a home. You will want to keep history intact, but in a way that reflects who you are. Whatever it is that you hold dear, you will want to put on display. One way of doing this is to set aside a small portion of your property and dedicate it to a specific interest. For example, if you are an athlete, you can have an in-home weight room in one part of your chateau, while keeping the rest of the property in its original pristine and historical condition. You do not have to sacrifice the things that are truly important to you when you move into a chateau. On the contrary, you are now able to capitalize on those interests.

Many chateaux are considered historical landmarks, and major renovations must be approved by the French government. If you have a privately owned chateau, however, this does not necessarily need to happen. In these cases, you are free to remodel the chateau as you see fit. By making our chateaux a reflection of who we are, we are adding to the historical story that each and every chateau has.
